Mobile Carriers Fail Call Drop Test in Darjeeling and Sikkim

Gangtok : All mobile carriers failed to meet the “Call Drop Rate benchmark of under 2%” test conducted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in Darjeeling and Sikkim this year. State-run BSNL was the worst performer in both the call drop test in Darjeeling and Sikkim with a call drop rate of 21.05% in 2G and 17.11% in 3G respectively. Leading telecom company Bharti Airtel failed both the tests in 2G and 3G with call drop rates over 15% in Darjeeling and Sikkim. Call drop rates of Idea and Vodafone were well over the 2% benchmark in both the tests too. Most of the operators failed to meet the call setup success rate benchmark of over 95% except Aircel 2G and 3G, MTS CDMA and Vodafone 3G in Darjeeling and Sikkim. The audit was carried out by audit agency IMRB International in the city of Darjeeling and Sikkim from 25th to 27th May 2016 covering various locations in the city over a distance of 320 kilometers.
