Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling Tables Budget for the financial year 2016-17

Gangtok : Sikkim Chief Minister, Mr. Pawan Chamling who is also the Minister-in-charge of Finance, Revenue and Expenditure proposed a total budget of Rs. 5884.43 crores for the financial year 2016-17. Highlighting the key initiatives of the government, the Chief Minister in his address elucidated the physical and financial progress made by the Government in the current financial year. Adding that the government has worked tirelessly to fulfill the basic minimum needs of the people of Sikkim, he said that the government has achieved the goals of good governance through participative planning and implementation of schemes through a bottom up approach. 

He pointed out that the Government has created quality infrastructure as well as human resource to convert Sikkim into a vibrant developing state. The Chief Minister also stressed on new and innovative schemes of the Government and ensuring of transparency through monitoring and evaluation. New proposals in the budget include a State Library envisaged to be the largest in the country and a store house of valuable resources powered by technological aides, a Folk Healer Centre to be developed at Assam Lingzey, Shaheed Gram which will showcase the contribution of the freedom fighters, Ethnic Cultural Centre and Rock-Carved Statues. He announced that an initial allocation of Rs.1crore is earmarked for each of the projects.
