Black Cat Division organises veterans rally in Gangtok, Sikkim

GANGTOK : The Black Cat Division of the Army today conducted the annual rally for veterans of Sikkim at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok. The event is held to recognise the sacrifice made by them for the country and to address issues related to their wellbeing. The focus of this year’s rally was to resolve pension-related issues of veterans and veer naris. A pension cell has been established in Gangtok for educating them about their emolument rights and other benefits. The initiative is being complemented by ‘Project Milap’ started a few months ago, under which Army teams reached out to veterans residing in far flung areas to resolve their personal issues and make them aware about new policies. The rally was participated by more than 500 veterans and veer naris from all over the state. They included Pema Chuki Kazini, wife of Late Honourary Captain Ganju Lama (Victoria Cross recipient) and Pema Dorjee, among many other decorated soldiers. Rich tributes were paid to Late Rifleman Karma Tenzing Sherpa of 2/5 Gorkha Rifles, who sacrificed his life on April 1 of this year fighting insurgents in Manipur, and Late Rifleman Bishal Gurung of 3/1 Gorkha Rifles, who was martyred on May 25, 2015 fighting terrorists in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu & Kashmir. Among other prominent personalities, Rajya Sainik Board secretary Col DN Bhutia also addressed the rally. Thirty veterans and veer naris, who have made significant contributions to society, were also felicitated during the rally.
