The Three Gorkha Jawans killed in an encounter in Kashmir

DARJEELING :The Three Army jawans killed in an encounter with heavily armed infiltrators in Tangdhar sector in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir have been identified as Ankit Pradhan, Akash Kumar Gurung and Bishal Gurung. All of them belonged to the 11th Gorkha Rifles, an army official said on Wednesday. Their bodies arrived at Bagdogra airport during the day. A PTI report from Srinagar on Monday had said quoting the army that three soldiers and a militant were killed on the day as troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Kashmir. An Army patrol noticed suspicious movement close to the LoC in Tangdhar and challenged the group of militants. A heavy exchange of fire ensued between the two sides and the infiltrators were forced to retreat back across the LoC. While one militant was killed in the gunfight, four soldiers sustained injuries in the operation. Amongst them, three succumbed to injuries before being admitted to the 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. The rest of the militants were chased away.
