10 Sikkimese social workers felicitated by Sahitya Academy

GANGTOK : The Bharatiya Sahitya Academy felicitated ten Sikkimese people for their contribution to social causes at a function organized at Panchasheel Ashram in Delhi. The academy’s Fellowship Award was handed over to the recipients by the BSA’s Prof. Dr. SP Sumnaksar. The social workers included SB Darji, Roshan Silal, Shanti Sundas, Mingma Doma Bhutia, DP Singh, Ratan Rasaili, Kavita Pariyar, Bhupen Lamichanay, Hemant Ramudamu and Anup Thatal. Following the felicitation they also met the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilash Paswan. The information about the felicitation was provided through a press statement today by LB Ruchal, press secretary for Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, Sikkim.

The ten social workers led by Gita Ruchal, President of Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, Sikkim, reached back to Gangtok on Wednesday. The names of the 10 candidates for the award were suggested by the Sikkim division of the academy, which had also named a non-dalit Mingma Doma Bhutia for the award. The release stated the academy also felicitated social workers from Canada, Nepal, Sri Lanka and other foreign countries apart from India. In the next edition of the awards in 2015, the academy will consider the name of people involved in social work, business, politics and education among others, while special focus will be given to youths.
