Sikkim Governor reaches Chungthang on 3-day North Sikkim tour

Gangtok : Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil and his wife Rajanidevi Patil reached Chungthang on a three day tour of North Sikkim starting on Wednesday. Braving the torrential rain and bad road condition leading to North Sikkim, Governor’s entourage reached Mangan in the afternoon where he was given guard ofhonour by North District Police at Power Department Guest House. On the way to Chungthang ,the Governor visited Khangchendzonga Eco-tourism Centre at Naga Nagor. He visited the ‘Man Paha’ frog pond and Lepcha Boongthing School- cum- Lepcha Cultural Museum built at the premises. He also witnessed a short cultural programme and Flute Band Display by the students of Naga JHS. He was welcomed at the centre by Nim Tshering Lepcha, Zilla Up- Adhakshya, North District Zilla Panchayat. He also apprised the Governor about the concept and stages of the construction of the Eco-tourism Centre. 

While addressing the students, teachers, panchayat and general public gathered at the public ground at the centre, Governor lauded the effort of the committee to come up with such a unique concept to tap tourism potential of the district. He stressed on the need to harness the biggest potential of tourism, organic farming and smaller hydro-power generating unit on the streams and rivers even if they are seasonal. Governor also assured the gathering that he will take up the issue of poor road connectivity hampering the development and growth prospect of the district, with the Central Government and come up with solution at the earliest. On the occasion, he was presented a ‘Bamfok’ a traditional Lepcha weapon as a souvenir. Later, the Governor reached Pegong, Chungthang where he was accorded warm welcome by the public and the sub-divisionalofficers followed by guard of honour by the ITBP Police. The Governor also interacted with the district and sub-divisional Level Officers and enquired about the functioning of district and Sub Divisional Offices.
