Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Launched by CM Chamling

Gangtok : The Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling launched Mega Camp under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Sikkim Chapter, here in the capital. In a small function organised at his official residence Mintokgang the Chief Minister handed over token pass book ATM card and the documents of accidental Insurance coverage up-to Rs One Lakh to two of the beneficiaries namely Mrs Dhan Maya Subba and Mrs Man Maya Tamang from Kopibari, Syari, East Sikkim. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Chamling launded the effort of the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and marked its as a commendable, visionary and extremely beneficial programme for the people. He also expressed his happiness to have gotten this opportunity to launch such an impressive programme in the state and also informed that state and his government will extend all possible help to make it a successful mission. 

The mission which is very people centric and people friendly will be extremely beneficial to the people of this great nation and such innovative and visionary programme will lead India towards being a developed nation in the near future, Mr. Chamling affirmed. Earlier Mr. C.S Krishnamurthy General Manager State Bank of India Kolkata Branch, in his welcome note gave an overview and highlighted on the mission. The launching function was also attended by the Speaker Mr. K.N Rai, Chief Secretary Mrs. R. Ongmu, Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr. M. G Kiran and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. R.S Basnet. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna is a recently announced ambitious flagship programme of the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi led NDA government, which will give universal access to banking facilities for all households across the country through a bank branch or a fixed point Business Correspondent within a reasonable distance, Basic Banking account with Ru Pay debit card having inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs One lakh, an overdraft facility up-to Rs 50,000 will also be permitted to Adhar enabled accounts after satisfactory operation in the account for 6 months. 

This mission will address the vast majority and the marginalised Indian populace who are deprived of basic banking facilities and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna is the first step in that direction. With bank account every household gains access to banking and credit facilities, which will enable them to come-out of the grip of moneylenders, manage to keep away from financial crisis caused by emergent needs and most importantly benefit from a range of financial products. The mission also envisages expansion of Direct Benefit Transfer under various Government schemes through bank accounts of the beneficiaries etc, amongst host of other benefits. As a part of the financial inclusion mission that’s being launched in 76 places all over the nation today on 28th of August 2014, State Bank of India, the lead bank in the state of Sikkim is organising a mega camp in the capital for opening Savings bank account.
