Ghatani represents Sikkim at North East States conference

Gangtok : Healthcare and family welfare department minister AK Ghatani represented Sikkim at the conference of chief ministers of the North-Eastern States held at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on Aug 21 and 22. DONER minister and NEC chairman General VK Singh was the chief guest of the programme that was attended by the chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram, while Meghalaya was represented by the state’s sports minister. Ghatani shared the achievements, progress and various initiatives undertaken by the Sikkim government stating the state has achieved first position in the entire north-eastern region in the execution of NLCPR and NEC projects. He said 179 of the 233 sanctioned projects under NLCPR have been completed, while 66 schemes have been accomplished out of the 144 sanctioned. 

Ghatani said the Sikkim government has left no stone unturned while executing the projects even when resources were late in arriving. Further, Ghatani focused on the scenario of health, education, capacity building, tourism and organic mission in Sikkim and highlighted the Chief Minister`s Comprehensive Annual and Total Checkup for Healthy Sikkim (CATCH) programme and the construction of a multi-specialty hospital at Sichey. He further said the Sikkim government has allocated 20 per cent of its plan funds for quality education of children, scholarships, free education up to the college level, self employment schemes and Organic Mission 2015. The minister also interacted separately with General Singh and informed him about the youth centric approach of the Sikkim government. Singh was briefed on the establishment of the Sikkim Youth Development Board & Culture, Drama & Music Board and requested for release of more funds for the board in order to empower the youth of the state.
