Governor Patil attends 33rd Foundation Day of NABARD

Gangtok : Governor Shri Shriniwas Patil graced the 33rd Foundation Day of NABARD today here at the capital. In his speech, he congratulated NABARD for their service so far and also thanked them for supporting, helping and engaging the farmers, unemployed women and youths of Sikkim. Governor Patil also congratulated the farmers club and the self help groups, who have been representing the culture and traditions of Sikkim outside the State by participating in various exhibitions and festivals. He also added that both NABARD and the framers club should co-operate with each other in order to get better results in the future. The Governor urged the people of Sikkim to utilize the schemes provided by NABARD and get the benefits through them. He also asked the farmers and SHG’s to work on the shortcomings and consolidate on the strengths. RP Bhargava, GM, NABARD gave an account of the work done by NABARD during its 32 years of existence. 

He also gave a brief account of various schemes being implemented by NABARD in Sikkim. Bhargava informed there are about 543 farmers clubs all over the State and four women SHGs in East and North district. System of Rice Intensification is also implemented through UPO’s in East district and KVK Handloom is also encouraged through Nayuma Co-operative Handloom Society, he added. A detailed power point presentation was presented by PK Jha, DGM, NABARD indicating the future plans of NABARD for the development of Sikkim in the coming years. Later a booklet on NABARD was released and awards were presented to the farmers club and women SHGs for their work, which has been recognized by the committee. MG Kiran Principal Secretary Finance, M Misra GM, RBI, R Maiti MD, SISCO bank, Nima Lepcha President of UPO’S, bankers and the members from different farmers club, SHG’s and NGO’s attended the function.
