Trinmool Congress forms 3 new unit committees in Mirik

MIRIK : Trinamool Congress formed a new committee for its Mirik unit as per party chief Mamata Banerjee’s direction. Notably, Banerjee had recently conducted a high-level party meeting in Kolkata and had directed the party units at all the levels to reform its committee. On the same line the TMC Mirik unit also formed its committee at a meeting conducted today at the party office. The unit has appointed Anil Chettri as the unit president, Shanti Subba and Sunil Rai as vice-presidents, Santosh Khawas as chief secretary, Basant Thulung as treasurer and Bigal Rai and Kishor Pradhan as assistant secretaries. The unit will also have 35 others as working committee members. Meanwhile, Rajen Mukhiya has been selected as the president for the Darjeeling Hill TMC unit, while Shanti Chettri and NB Khawas will be the working presidents. The Hill TMC women’s wing will be headed by Sharda Subba. 

Addressing the media, Rajen Mukhiya said the main aim of forming the party committee was in preparation to the state assembly elections in 2016. “The newly formed committees will be observed for three months and a decision to continue with the same group will be taken after that,” he added. Mukhia said a representative group of the Hill TMC will head for Kolkata to submit the committee report on June 14 as per the direction of the party chief. “We will form the committee for Darjeeling Town and RR block on June 9, 6th Mile committee on June 10, Bijanbari committee on June 11 and Kalimpong committee on June 12,” he informed. Mukhia further informed TMC Sukkaypokhari committee was also formed today. The unit will be headed by Pemba Lepcha, while Janu Sherpa and LM Bishta will be the vice presidents, Anjan De as general secretary, Nayan Lepcha and Yogendra Thakuri as assistant secretaries and Shata Kumar Rai as treasurer.
