Chamling resigns as MLA from Rangrang-Yangang constituency

Gangtok : The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling, has resigned as the Member of Legislative Assembly from Rangrang-Yangang constituency, according to a press release from the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. The release said Chamling submitted his resignation during the first state assembly session on May 28 and was duly accepted by the SLA Speaker, KN Rai, on the same day. The SDF party president had won two seats in the assembly election this year and has decided to remain as the MLA from Namchi-Singhithang constituency. Sources said the party is planning to field a young candidate from the constituency in the by-election. According to Election Commission’s rule, the by-election for any particular constituency should be conducted within 6 months of the assembly seat remaining vacant. However, the state election commission has not provided any information regarding the by-election and is expected to be announced soon.
