EOI
NAMCHI : Residents of Tingley village woke up after witnessing a tragic incident last evening where two minors were burnt alive at Upper Remang village near Tingley-Burmiok under Tingley-Remang Gram Panchayat Unit in south Sikkim. A fire broke out in the house of Prem Bahadur Gurung around 5:30pm that reduced everything to ashes and also took away the lives of his children, Merina Gurung (6) and eight-month-old Anish Gurung. It has been reported only the two children were present in the house when the fire broke out as Prem Bahadur was busy restoring a water pipeline while his wife, Martha Subba, was out collecting firewood for the evening meal and fodder for their cattle. When the couple approached home, everything was found in flames. As their home is in a very isolated area, the couple could not receive help immediately from other residents of the village. The police have registered a case and started an investigation. A team from the district administration led by SDM HQ Sandup Bhutia and DPO (Disaster Management Cell) Pempa Norbu today visited the area and consoled the distraught couple. Bhuita said the administration has released immediate relief for the husband and wife and has also asked the area’s panchayat to do the needful for the duo.
