GANGTOK: Sikkim Citizen Forum president T Lachungpa held a press conference where he strongly condemned the statement made by Minister of State in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office Jitendra Singh regarding Article 370. Lachungpa said the new MoS PMO should not have invited controversy by saying “Article 370 should be revoked in Jammu & Kashmir”. According to Singh, discussions are on with various stakeholders to explain to them the benefits and disadvantages of Article 370 for J&K. If such a step is taken, Article 371f concerning Sikkim will then come under direct threat to endanger the rights of the Sikkimese people, warned the SCF chief.

He also said the forum will write to the prime minister, home minister and Singh over the matter, adding “if such controversies continue, we will go to Delhi and stage a dharna. “I am ready to sacrifice my life for this and seek support from everyone as all we want is peace, unity and progress,” said Lachungpa. He further said the SCF is confident and hopeful about the state government taking appropriate steps to protect the Sikkimese people. Earlier during the conference, the SCF president congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for their record breaking wins and also welcomed the latter’s appeal to the Opposition of working together for the common good. Lachungpa said Chamling has made a constructive move to highlight him as a mature politician.
